CP Multiplier Values for Every Level (1 to 50)
CPM stands for CP Multiplier. It is a number that Pokémon GO uses behind the scenes to calculate your Pokémon’s CP (Combat Power).
Every level in the game has its own CPM value. The higher the level, the higher the CPM, and the higher the CP of your Pokémon.
This is why powering up your Pokémon increases its CP — you are moving it to a higher level, which means a higher CPM value is applied to its stats.
The game uses this formula to calculate CP:
CP = (Base Attack + Attack IV) × √(Base Defense + Defense IV) × √(Base Stamina + Stamina IV) × CPM² ÷ 10
The important part is that CPM is squared in this formula. This means even a small increase in CPM makes a noticeable difference in final CP. This is why the last few power-ups before Level 40 or Level 50 give a big CP boost.
This table includes every level from 1 to 50, including all the half-levels (like 1.5, 2.5, etc.). Half-levels are the steps between whole levels when you power up your Pokémon.
| Level | CPM Value | Stardust / Power-Up | Candy / Power-Up |
|---|
* From Level 40.5 onwards, XL Candy is required for every power-up. Half-level (.5) steps are intermediate power-up stages between whole levels.
When you press the power-up button in Pokémon GO, your Pokémon does not jump from Level 1 directly to Level 2. It goes from Level 1 → Level 1.5 → Level 2 → Level 2.5, and so on.
Each half-level has its own CPM value, which is why your CP increases with every single power-up, not just at whole levels.
You cannot see your Pokémon’s exact level number in the game. The arc above your Pokémon on the details screen shows approximately where it is.
Level 1 — The lowest possible level. CPM is 0.094.
Level 20 — Most Pokémon you catch in normal weather are around this level or below.
Level 30 — Wild Pokémon can appear up to this level under normal conditions.
Level 35 — The maximum level for wild catches, including weather-boosted Pokémon.
Level 40 — The original level cap before 2020. Still the most common stopping point for most trainers. CPM is 0.7903.
Level 50 — The current maximum level. Requires XL Candy to reach. CPM is 0.8403.
Stardust costs increase in steps as your Pokémon’s level goes up. Here is a simple summary:
| Level Range | Stardust Cost per Power-Up | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Levels 1 – 2.5 | 200 Stardust | Lowest cost bracket |
| Levels 3 – 4.5 | 400 Stardust | |
| Levels 5 – 8.5 | 600 – 800 Stardust | |
| Levels 9 – 14.5 | 1,000 – 1,600 Stardust | |
| Levels 15 – 24.5 | 1,900 – 3,500 Stardust | |
| Levels 25 – 30.5 | 4,000 – 6,000 Stardust | |
| Levels 31 – 39.5 | 6,000 – 10,000 Stardust | |
| Levels 40 – 50 | 10,000 – 20,000 Stardust | + XL Candy required |
For most trainers, Level 40 is enough. The gains from Level 40 to Level 50 are real but small, and they cost a large amount of XL Candy which is hard to collect.
Level 50 is worth it if you play Master League in PvP, where every CP point matters, or if you have a very strong Pokémon with high IVs that you want to maximize.
For raiding and casual play, Level 40 gives you excellent performance without the XL Candy grind.
The highest CPM is 0.84029999 at Level 50.
Yes. Every Pokémon species uses the same CPM table. What makes one Pokémon stronger than another is its base stats and IVs, not its CPM.
Because CPM increases very slowly between Levels 40 and 50. The gains are real but small compared to early levels.
Wild Pokémon are usually between Level 1 and Level 30. Weather-boosted Pokémon can be up to Level 35. You cannot see the exact number in-game.
Niantic designed it this way to make maxing out a Pokémon a long-term goal. Early levels cost 1 candy per power-up. From Level 25 onwards it becomes 2, then 3, then 4 candy per power-up.
Now that you understand how CPM works, you can use our CP Calculator to find the exact CP of any Pokémon at any level. Just enter the species, IVs, and level — the calculator uses the CPM values from this table to give you an accurate result.
We also have an IV Calculator for evaluating your Pokémon’s potential and an Evolution Calculator for planning evolutions ahead of time. Together, they cover everything you need to make smarter decisions in Pokémon GO.
